When should I have my heating and cooling system serviced?
Your HVAC systems should be serviced before the start of each heating and cooling season. Your air conditioner should have regular maintenance performed at the end of winter or beginning of spring, while your heat pump or furnace should have its regular maintenance performed at the end of summer or beginning of fall.
When should I replace my oil furnace?
There are a number of factors that contribute to needing a furnace replacement. If your furnace is over 10–15 years old, it's likely time for a furnace replacement, simply because this will improve your energy efficiency. Other factors include how well it's heating your home, how often it requires repairs, and how much it costs to heat your home.
Do I really need a furnace cleaning every year?
Yes. Not only does a furnace cleaning improve the performance and efficiency of your system, most manufacturer warranties require annual service to maintain the warranty.
What temperature should I set my thermostat?
The time of year is a big factor for desired temperature settings. In summer the average setting is 78°–80°F; in winter, 70°–72°F is most common. When leaving your house, try to avoid drastic temperature changes — don't set your temperature back more than 5°, because this will cause your unit to work harder to reach the desired setting.
What maintenance should I do on my air conditioner?
The most important maintenance you can do is change your filters regularly. Ground-mounted outdoor units need to be kept clear of debris, clutter, weeds, or landscaping that can grow too close and reduce airflow to the unit. Keep pets away from the unit because pet urine can cause expensive damage. Use caution with a weed trimmer around the unit to prevent damaging control wiring. Any additional maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel.
How do I know if my A/C unit is big enough?
Before purchasing a replacement system, you should always make sure your system is sized properly. Our representative will provide a heat load calculation to determine the proper size and make the appropriate recommendation.
